Sydney-based creative agency Connecting Plots has acquired fellow independent agency Two Gs in a deal that brings to the group a host of major clients including Amazon Prime Video, Mad Mex and Penguin Books Australia.

Connecting Plots, which was buoyed by a number of big client wins in 2022, has announced that Two Gs founders Matt Geersen and John Gault have become creative partners following the acquisition which settled last week.

While financial details of the buyout have not been disclosed, Connecting Plots says Geerson and Gault both ‘live and breathe brand, digital and social worlds to create culture-shaping, made-for-channel creative’.

“Matt and John are a true representation of our old meets new philosophy,” says Connecting Plots co-founder and CEO Tom Phillips.

“They bring a unique mix of brand and creative with channel-centric thinking across social, digital and technology. We’re thrilled to have them join us.”

Connecting Plots was founded in 2018 by Phillips, Dave Jansen and Sophia Kang with a view to taking an ‘old-school meets new’ approach to the business.

Prior to the merger, the group had grown to 30 staff servicing major clients such as Nestlé, Menulog, Tourism Australia, Fantastic Furniture and Electrolux. Connecting Plots is said to have secured Lendlease and the Sydney Royal Easter Show as clients last year.

This month, Connecting Plots launched a specialist platform, known as a.glo, which is dedicated to channel-specific advertising for social and digital channels with a view to enhancing its clients’ return on investment.

The Two Gs agency was established in 2018 by Geerson and Gault after the partners carved out an extensive career in the marketing field including a stint with agency VML where they worked together on major accounts. The Two Gs founders are an award-winning duo with experience in traditional and digital-centric agencies, working with majors such as McDonalds, Toyota and Coca-Cola.

“I know digital like Lance Armstrong knows cheating,” Geerson jokes on his LinkedIn profile.

Business News Australia has sought further comment from Connecting Plots on its immediate growth plans following the acquisition.
